Preston North End secured their first win in a staggering eleven league games after a 4-0 win over local rivals Wigan Athletic on Saturday night.

Lilywhites boss Alex Neil has come under major scrutiny in recent weeks, after losing seven of their last ten league appearances.

But North End looked like a revitalised outfit on Saturday afternoon, as goals from Tom Barkhuizen, Callum Robinson, Paul Gallagher and an own goal from Dan Burn clinched only their second league win of the campaign.

The break has perhaps come at the wrong time for Neil's men, who aren't in action until the 20th of October when they face fellow strugglers Hull City at the KCOM Stadium.

But after a spirited performance against 10-men Wigan on Saturday, here we take a look at three things we learnt about Preston after their 4-0 victory.

After his 51st minute strike at the weekend, Robinson is now on five goals for the season, and is proving to be a very important player for North End this term.

The 23-year old was impressive throughout the contest and forced Wigan defender Dan Burn into an own goal, and if he continues this form then he can be a standout performer for North End this term.

Nmecha is yet to find the net in 10 appearances in Preston colours since his loan arrival from Manchester City, but was a real handful at the weekend.

The 19-year old worked his socks off up front for the Lilywhites and was a real nuisance for the Wigan defence throughout, typified when he was brought down for a penalty in the 84th minute.

With time, he could be a really good player for North End.

News has emerged this week that PNE have shortlisted a trio of managers to succeed Neil should results worsen once again, with the Scotsman under real scrutiny.

But after coming back from 2-0 down to draw 3-3 at Aston Villa last week, as well as thumping local rivals Wigan 4-0 on Saturday, this shows that Neil still has a lot of characters and spirit in his squad, despite a dismal start to the season.
