Lewis Grabban scored twice as Nottingham Forest moved up to fourth in the Sky Bet Championship with a thrilling 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers at the City Ground.

Joe Lolley opened the scoring for Forest midway through the first half, as his cross from the right deceived Blackburn goalkeeper Christian Walton and found the corner of the net.

Lolley was involved again moments later, racing through before being brought down by Walton, allowing Grabban to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot after 25 minutes.

Stewart Downing pulled one back for Blackburn before half-time with a superb half-volley, but Grabban restored Forest's two-goal advantage in the 55th minute with a fine header from Sammy Ameobi's cross.

Joe Worrall turned the ball into his own net on 71 minutes to set up a tense finish, but Forest held on. The Reds have now won their last three matches and move up to fourth in the league table, level on points with third-placed Brentford, with a game in hand.

Here are THREE things we clearly learnt about Nottingham Forest after their 3-2 win at the City Ground...

Joe Lolley's resurgence continues

Joe Lolley was one of the standout performers for Nottingham Forest in the Championship last season and while he's played an important role this campaign, he's also been criticised by some fans at times for some inconsistent performances.

The 27-year-old came off the bench against Wigan Athletic in the previous game and looked more like his old self and he produced another encouraging display against Blackburn.

He was excellent and even though there was an element of fortune about his goal, but it should give him a huge confidence boost.

The winger showed that he's on his way to rediscovering his best form and he's got to use this performance as a platform to build from and keep on improving.

Lewis Grabban was excellent again, but another striker in January is a must

Lewis Grabban has been excellent for Nottingham Forest so far this season and the centre-forward was magnificent against Blackburn. The 31-year-old led the line superbly and took both of his goals very well, to take his tally to 14 for the season.

He's one of the best strikers in the Championship and he's going to be so crucial to Forest's chances of winning promotion this season.

However, there's a fine line between a team having a standout performer and that team becoming over-reliant on their star man. Forest are in danger of crossing that line with Grabban and his performance against Blackburn highlights this even further.

If he were to get injured, Forest would really struggle without him and his display at the City Ground on New Year' Day only highlights exactly why Sabri Lamouchi has to sign another experienced striker in the transfer window.

They have to build on back-to-back home wins

This was an excellent result for Nottingham Forest and it should give the players a huge confidence boost going into their next few matches.

A lot has been said about how Forest need to improve their home form if they're to maintain their promotion push, so this was a result that is significant in more ways than one.

Believe it or not, this was the second time this season that Forest have won back-to-back home games in the Championship and it was also the second time this campaign at they've scored more than one goal in a league game at the City Ground.
