Nottingham Forest's season has gone anything but to plan so far with fans growing increasingly frustrated with the way it has panned out.

With 17 new faces arriving in the summer, big things were expected as they looked to recreate the success of Wolves last season, but with 28 matches played they sit in 12th place.

The majority of fans were not happy to see Aitor Karanka leave the club, blaming those higher up in the club for mistreating him during his reign, but hopes were high that club legend Martin O'Neil could turn things around.

The Irishman's reign did not exactly get off to the best of starts last weekend, however, as Bristol City came away from the City Ground with all three points.

Famara Diedhiou's 70th-minute strike was enough to continue Lee Johnson's side's fine run of form and ruin O'Neill's big day.

But will he have learnt from his first game in charge?

Here are THREE things...

They are a one striker team

Many eyebrows will have been raised when O'Neill announced his starting XI for the clash.

In attack, was a strike pairing of Daryl Murphy and Lewis Grabban, something that Karanka never did and this match showed why.

The two players are both suited to playing as a lone striker and working together there was a clash of styles that simply did not work.

Yacob's versatility could be key

Another aspect that may have taken some by surprise was the decision to play Claudio Yacob as a centre-back.

The Argentinian more than held his own, however, passing the physical test posed by Diedhiou impressively whilst remaining cool on the ball.

There is still work to be done but it is certainly another option for O'Neill to use in the future.

More creativity is needed

This was undoubtedly a knock on from playing both Grabban and Murphy.

Cash and Lolley have the ability to create from the wings but the midfield was crying out for someone who could produce more going forward than Jack Colback.

I would like to see Carvalho starting more consistently.
