This season could not be much more of a contrast to the last for Millwall who slipped closer to the relegation zone on Saturday.

This time last year, the Lions were beginning their remarkable run of form that eventually saw them narrowly miss out on the top-six. It was a run that gave big hopes for the current campaign, but they have not been met.

Neil Harris's side were beaten comfortably by Blackburn Rovers at the Den on Saturday with goals from Joe Nuttall and Adam Armstrong giving the visitors a 2-0 win.

It was a win that moved Rovers nine points clear of the Lions and drew their victims closer to the drop zone, now sat just five points ahead of Reading who currently occupy the final relegation spot.

Harris will be beginning to look over his shoulder nervously as we enter the second half of the season but what will have learnt from Saturday's performance?

Here are THREE things we clearly did...

Reinforcements will be needed

So far the main deals the Lions have completed this month have been turning the loans of Ryan Leonard and Tom Bradshaw into permanent deals, as well as Alex Pearce moving on loan from Derby.

Harris is perhaps falling victim of showing too much faith in last season's crop of players and a few new arrivals could give this team the boost it needs.

They are in a relegation scrap

There has perhaps been a sense of denial around the club that after last season's triumph, that any problems they were facing would sort themselves.

That is not going to happen.

The club need to realise, as the fans are doing, that they are back in a relegation scrap and mentalities need to switch back to that mode.

Lee Gregory needs to start

The striker has scored nine goals this season but started from the bench against Rovers.

He is by far and away the Lions' biggest goal threats and having somebody who can score goals reliably at the bottom of the table can frequently prove the difference.

This should be a no brainer.
