Matt Smith scored his first Championship goal of the campaign, but it wasn't enough to see Millwall return to winning ways against Cardiff City on Saturday.

Last months victory at Preston North End saw Gary Rowett's men appear as early-season promotion contenders, but just three points from their previous four matches has seen the Lions fall off the pace in recent weeks.

The weekend draw against Neil Harris' side was Millwall's fourth game without a win - and we've looked at THREE things we learnt from those 90 minutes against the Bluebirds...

20 quiz questions about Millwall's current squad that Lions fans should be getting correct

Missed chances becoming a theme

If Millwall want to be considered as serious top-six challengers, they cannot afford to keep passing up chances at their current rate.

Against Barnsley last month, it was Mason Bennett and Kenneth Zohore, whilst Shaun Hutchinson and Matt Smith were the guilty parties against Sheffield Wednesday prior to the international break - both failing to hit the target with their close-range headers.

But perhaps the Lions' worst two misses in recent weeks came either side of Moore's leveller here.

Firstly, Ben Thompson couldn't keep his header down, despite being unmarked from six-yards, before Bodvarsson's skewed well wide deep into the second-half when clean through.

If even half of those opportunities found the net, Rowett's side would be comfortably in the play-offs, not in mid-table.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is running out of opportunities

Following his summer switch from Reading last month, it really hasn't gone to plan in a Millwall shirt for the Icelandic striker.

He's managed just four Championship goals for the Lions, and judging by his crucial miss against Cardiff, Bodvarsson is clearly desperately low on confidence.

Having been put through one-on-one by Ryan Woods, the Bodvarsson had only the keeper to beat, but somehow failed to hit the target - although you never got the feeling the net was going to ripple.

With Matt Smith back in the goals, and Troy Parrott available once again, the former Reading man's days at The Den look limited.

Bartosz Bialkowski to the rescue once again

Whilst Millwall are fortunate to have one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship in their ranks, the fact that Bialkowski is their standout player on a almost weekly basis, is becoming an extremely worrying recurrence.

Against the Bluebirds, the Polish shotshopper once more earned his stripes by producing three outstanding saves - with the best of those coming from Harry Wilson's close-range effort, where he somehow managed to produced a David De Gea-like stop with his left-boot.

Rowett would have been thrilled with his goalkeeper's contribution, although he'll be hoping the Pole won't be anywhere near as busy against Reading on Wednesday.
