Luton Town missed a chance to all-but secure the League One title last night, as they were undone by a late goal at home to Wimbledon.

The Wombles twice trailed thanks to well worked goals by Elliott Lee and leading scorer James Collins, but Joe Pigott gave them hope with a first half strike.

Luton dominated possession, as you'd expect the league leaders to, and had a good penalty shout turned down in a frantic first period.

In the second half they kept up the pressure, with Jack Stacey and Elliott Lee both spurning good chances. That left the door open for the visitors and they produced the ultimate smash and grab in the dying minutes, Gareth Seddon nodding home.

It's a vital point for them in their hunt for League One football next season, but for Luton in prolongs the wait for a place in the Championship. They can wrap it up this Saturday against Burton, a win would leave them at least three points clear with a strong goal difference going into the final match.

It's still a case of 'if', rather than 'when' though. Even at this late stage, here's what we learnt last night.

They need to be more ruthless

Luton had 21 shots last night, ten of which were on target. Had they taken some of the better chances, they should have been out of sight by half time.

Creatively, they're very good but it was a rare off day for the hot shots up top for the Hatters.

The title isn't won yet

They looked nailed on to win the title, but at this moment in time they're not even guaranteed promotion.

They can wrap that up with a win this weekend and, if results got their way, they can lift the title too.

It'll be a tense afternoon at the Pirelli.

Kazenga Lua Lua is in trouble next season

In the absence of Danny Hylton, Lua Lua started for the Hatters but he wasn't as effective as the rest of the side.

When you look at the quality they have and the areas they need to improve, the former Brighton man does appear to be drifting towards a summer exit.
