Lincoln City took another huge step towards League One football last night with a comfortable 2-0 victory against Oldham Athletic at Sincil Bank.

Whilst promotion rivals MK Dons and Mansfield were dropping points, a ruthless Lincoln side put Oldham to the sword in a game they could have won by a more significant margin.

Jose Baxter's red card just before half time changed the complexion of the game. The Imps earned a 1-0 lead courtesy of Harry Toffolo's driven effort, but Baxter's horror challenge reduced his side to ten men and effectively ended the Latics threat.

Danny Rowe added a superb second after coming on at half time, but the Imps hit the bar and had numerous other efforts saved or cleared as they utterly dominated the encounter.

They're now ten points clear of fourth-placed MK Dons, with a five point gap between them and second placed Bury.

After struggling at home through January and February, Danny Cowley's side have now won back to back home games and look on course for promotion.

Here's 3 things we definitely learned about them last night.

The Imps started with the big centre forward Matt Rhead up front, looking to get from back to front quickly.

When Baxter got sent off they had to revert to their usual style, bringing on Danny Rowe to sit behind John Akinde and build up patiently.

They dominated the match using both approaches, proving they're as adaptable as anyone in the division.

After a run of home draws against Northampton, Port Vale, Stevenage and Exeter, the Imps looked to be having a blip.

They've now taken 13 points from their last 15 and are back on course for only their second spell in the third tier in over three decades.

Last week Mark O'Hara headed them a winner from the centre of midfield. Last night a left-footed full back popped up on the edge of the area with a right-footed drive to open the scoring and a substitute added a second.

They've had 18 different scorers in their matches this season, a remarkable statistic and testament to their use of the full squad.
