Lincoln City tumbled out of the FA Cup this weekend, but there was no disgrace in their 2-1 loss against Premier League side Everton.
Over 5500 fans made the journey to Liverpool only to see their side fall behind to a quickfire double. Ademola Lookman opened the scoring with a looping header, before tricky Brazilian Bernard flicked a delicious lob over the head of Imps keeper Josh Vickers.
The top flight side looked likely to run riot, but the League Two leaders steadied themselves and remained true to their game plan. Michael Bostwick slammed home a consolation goal on the half hour mark, but it wasn’t enough to swing the tie in their direction.
The final ten minutes were nervy for Everton as they hacked a Jason Shackell header off the line, as well as surviving a strong penalty shout for a shove on Shay McCartan. It wasn’t to be Lincoln’s afternoon and the 2017 quarter finalists went out after their brave fight.
Manager Danny Cowley will have learned plenty about his side though, with FLW identifying three key lessons he can take away from the game.
