Leicester City managed to avoid a shock in the League Cup last night as they secured a place in the quarter-finals of the competition at the expense of Milton Keynes Dons.

Youri Tielemans opened the scoring for the Foxes in the 18th minute of this clash as he slotted an effort past Dons goalkeeper Jamie Cumming.

Ayoze Perez then doubled his side's advantage after latching on to a long ball from Luke Thomas.

Following the break, Jamie Vardy effectively sealed victory for Leicester by scoring their third goal of the evening in the 50th minute.

The Foxes will discover who they are set to face in the next round of the competition when the draw takes place on Thursday.

Here, we have decided to reflect on the club's latest outing by taking a look at three things we clearly learnt about Leicester after their 3-0 win over MK Dons...

Perez could play a role in helping Leicester achieve success in the second half of the season

After providing an assist in Leicester's win over West Ham United before the break for the World Cup, Perez produced another promising performance against MK Dons last night.

As well as scoring his first goal of the season in this particular fixture, the Spaniard also completed 38 passes and made three tackles as he recorded an impressive WhoScored match rating of 7.94.

Providing that he is able to maintain his fitness and is not sold by Leicester in January, there is a chance that Perez could go on to help his side achieve a relative amount of success in the second half of the campaign by contributing regularly in the Premier League and in the cup competitions.

Thomas deserves a run in the club's starting eleven for their upcoming fixtures

Thomas marked his third consecutive start for Leicester by producing an assured display against MK Dons last night.

The defender set up Perez's goal and also registered an impressive pass success rate of 93% (as per WhoScored) in this fixture as he helped his side prevent their opponents from scoring.

It could be argued that Thomas now deserves a run in Leicester's side in their upcoming Premier League fixtures as he also played an influential role in helping the Foxes claim a clean-sheet in their victory over West Ham United just before the international break.

Leicester now have a great chance of reaching the latter stages of a cup competition once again

When you consider that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have already been eliminated from the League Cup, Leicester certainly have a great chance of reaching the latter stages of yet another competition.

With Manchester City and Liverpool set to take on each other tomorrow, one of these sides will also exit the competition and thus a pathway could open for the Foxes to reach the final.

Having guided Leicester to FA Cup glory in 2021, Brendan Rodgers will be confident in his ability to oversee a victory in the quarter-finals.

By making it past this round, the Foxes will be two games away from returning to Wembley Stadium.
