Huddersfield Town fought back to earn a 1-1 draw against Swansea City on Tuesday night, with Trevoh Chalobah receiving a red card late on.

Huddersfield came into the fixture looming to build on their draw against Birmingham and continue their rise away from the relegation zone, however, they had to settle for a draw having fallen behind after an 18th-minute Jay Fulton strike.

Karlan Grant hit back for the Terriers just before half-time with a well-taken finish which saw the sides share the spoils in the John Smith’s Stadium. In a game that had few clear-cut chances, Huddersfield earning a point against a side firmly in the hunt for promotion this season is a positive sign.

This point puts Huddersfield up to 18 for the season and four points clear of the relegation zone, but 11 points behind the top six heading into December.

Here, we take a look at three things we learnt about the Terries after last night’s draw against Swansea…

Losing Chalobah is a big blow

Chelsea-loanee Trevoh Chalobah was sent off late into the game for violent conduct following an altercation with Swansea’s George Byers after the Swansea man made a somewhat strong challenge on the Town midfielder.

This red card now means Huddersfield will be without the youngster for the next three games as he serves a suspension. This is a hammer blow to Huddersfield for these games as Chalobah has come into his own of late as he grows in maturity in the heart of Danny Cowley’s midfield.

Huddersfield’s depth is already giving Cowley a selection headache with key defenders missing, so losing Chalobah will be sure to concern Cowley for the coming weeks.

They will feel frustrated not to get more

Huddersfield dominated every statistic last night against a Swansea side that will have been more than happy to dig deep for a draw against a resurgent team away from home. In terms of possession, passes completed, shots, chances, and corners, Huddersfield comfortably had more, showing how they had a strong grip on proceedings.

This bodes well for Huddersfield going forward as Swansea have shown this season that they can set up to frustrate teams, but Town still managed to fight back for a draw and look to win it in the second half.

With their domination, Cowley and his side will be thinking they could have taken maximum points from the game but a draw is still a positive result going forward.

They can compete with the better sides

Swansea this season have been a revelation under Steve Cooper as they look to rebuild after the key departures of Oli McBurnie and Dan James. The away side from last night still sit in the play-off places and will fancy their chances of promotion with the division suffering from a dip in quality compared to last campaign.

Huddersfield’s draw and domination of the game shows how much they have come on since Cowley’s arrival, that they can compete with the sides pushing for the ultimate prize, which bodes well for their own prospects come the end of the season.
