Huddersfield Town continued their poor start to the season, with another home defeat, this time at the hands of Reading.

A positive start to the match saw the Terriers dominate the first-half with chances for Alex Pritchard and loanee Trevor Chalobah before Christopher Schindler headed wide late into the opening 45 minutes.

In the second-half however, it all unravelled for interim boss Mark Hudson. Sloppy defending allowed Ovie Ejaria to strike, before an unchallenged Michael Morrison headed home from a corner.

This was a bitter blow for the Terriers who failed to find a route back into the game. It has left the side without a win in their first five games as they sit with just one point and in the relegation zone.

Here are THREE things we learned from Huddersfield's fourth defeat of the season...

They need to be more potent in front of goal

The Terriers struggled in front of goal against Reading with just two shots on-target.

They have players in attacking positions who are proven at previous clubs and know where the back of the net is, but their creative players failed to break down a stubborn Reading side.

Players such as Alex Pritchard and Rajiv van La Parra need to take more responsibility and get shots away. If Karlan Grant gets the service, then he will score goals but he currently isn't getting it and something needs to change.

New manager must bring back the basics

Whoever comes in has to bring back the basics. The possession football that they're trying to play clearly isn't working. Keeping the ball is one thing, but not being able to do anything with it is another.

The squad has to get the basic stuff right. Defending from set-pieces, a solid structure behind the forwards and make themselves tough to beat first and foremost. It felt like Reading never quite needed to get out of first gear.

Lack of belief in the squad

There is a lack of belief running through the squad. After such a dismal campaign in the Premier League last season, they needed a fast start in the Championship to get over such an awful year.

That hasn't happened, and instead of getting a fresh start, the side look depleted of not just ideas, but any confidence to carry them through.

A motivator is needed, and very soon so that they can start to regain some belief in to the squad. Until then, it looks like the Terriers will continue their winless start to the season.
