Charlton Athletic were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at home to Forest Green Rovers last night, making it four without a win for Ben Garner's side.

An early goal from Corey Blackett-Taylor put the Addicks ahead but Connor Wickham equalised just before the break, with the hosts having missed chances to double their lead prior to that.

Whilst Charlton dominated the second half in terms of possession, they struggled to create clear chances and those that did come their way weren't taken.

And, here we look at THREE things we learnt about Charlton from the game...

They lack a cutting edge

We'll start with the obvious. For the amount of possession they had, Garner's side simply didn't create enough. They would keep the ball well but it was often easy enough for Forest Green to defend.

There needs to be an additional spark in the final third, whether that's with quicker play or an individual taking responsibility. Either way, the recent results have followed a theme where despite having the ball, Charlton don't do enough to open teams up.

Garner still needs time

Of course, there needs to be patience with the new regime as Garner was appointed in the summer and he is trying to implement a new style of play.

So, it was always going to take time and results weren't going to be instant.

The fans have seen signs of what the new manager wants to do and they will hope for improvements in the weeks and months to come as the group get to grips with the specific demands from Garner.

They are hard to beat at home

There would have been a negative reaction to last night's result, which is understandable.

However, the positives are that Charlton are still unbeaten at home in the league, having picked up eight points from four games.

Results at The Valley are going to be key to any promotion push and even though the draw will feel disappointing, it has become a difficult place for the opposition to come.
