If ever there was an away trip perfectly summed up by the words 'it's never easy to go there', it has to be Plymouth Argyle.

The Pilgrims are always a decent side at Home Park, not least due to the distance clubs have to travel to get there. They've lost as many as seventh placed Peterborough this season and always offer a tricky opponent for visitors.

Charlton will have had their work cut out this weekend. Derek Adams' side had lost six at home all season before the weekend, fewer than all but three teams outside the top six. The Addicks needed to be on their game, and they did exactly what was needed.

A goal from Lyle Taylor was enough to set them on their way before an unfortunate own goal gave them the 2-0 lead they needed to further their play-off ambitions. They're 12 points clear of seventh place now, with just 18 left to play for.

It also kept up a decent run of form for Lee Bowyer's side. They're the third best side in the six-game form table, adding to the notion that this might just be their season.

Here's three things they taught us during their 2- win this weekend.

Dillon Phillips is as crucial as any striker

When Aston Villa recalled Jed Steer, there was a fear that the Addicks might suffer.

They brought Chris Maxwell in on loan, but he's not had a chance after the great form of Phillips.

He saved Graham Carey's penalty just minutes before Lyle Taylor gave the Addicks the lead and was in great form the whole game.

Johnny Williams is a key man

The former Sunderland man is a creative force and he looks to have found a home at the Valley.

He was excellent for their second goal, working space down the flank and providing the cross that Niall Canavan turned into his own net.

They're going to be a handful in the play-offs

Even with the key players they've lost, Lee Bowyer has put a great blend of players together at Charlton,

They're in good form and that's ominous for the clubs sharing a play-off spot with them.

Nobody, not even Sunderland or Luton, would fancy their chances over two legs against a full-strength Addicks side.
