Bristol Rovers enjoyed an excellent win on Saturday afternoon, as they beat Peterborough United 1-0 at The Memorial Stadium.

After a goalless first half, it was the Gas who took the lead early in the second half, when Scott Sinclair fired home his first league goal since his return to the club last month.

The hosts were then giving a helping hand in seeing out the win when Peterborough had a man sent off after Ronnie Edwards was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity with 15 minutes to go.

That was enough to ensure Bristol Rovers would see the game out, and claim all three points to climb to 15th in the League One table.

As a result, there will be plenty for manager Joey Barton to reflect on, so we've taken a look at three things we learnt about Bristol Rovers from that win over Peterborough, right here.

Scott Sinclair is already making a case for an extended contract

When he completed his long awaited return to Bristol Rovers last month, Scott Sinclair put pen to paper on a short-term contract until January 2023.

But having already netted the winner for the Gas in their FA Cup first round win over Rochdale earlier this month, the winger backed that up with another big matchwinning goal here, where his defensive contributions also proved vital in helping his side claiming a big three points with some vital blocks.

As a result, you get the feeling that if the 33-year-old continues to produce such influential performances as this at both ends of the pitch, on a new contract will surely have to be on the agenda sooner rather than later.

Barton's bold claim backed up

Speaking ahead of this afternoon's game, Barton had claimed that his side are better than the 17th place they occupied in the League One table at the start of this weekend.

Given they went on to dominate a Peterborough side who themselves started the game fourth in the table, but were not allowed a shot on target until the 90th minute, that does seem to show Barton's suggestion that they can play at a higher level within the division than they are currently at to be correct.

With that in mind, it does look as though the Gas could now be a major threat to plenty of teams, even those with their eyes set on promotion to the Championship between now and the end of the campaign.

The Memorial Stadium is becoming a fortress

One particular place where Bristol Rovers look as though they will especially be a threat this season, is the Memorial Stadium.

This victory over Peterborough means the Gas are now unbeaten in their last seven games in all competitions on their own turf, winning five of those outings, scoring 13 goals and conceding just five in the process, with even league leaders Plymouth being forced to settle for a 2-2 draw.

It seems therefore, that on current form, the Memorial Stadium is not a destination that any opposition team will be relishing in the coming weeks and months.
