Bristol City picked up their second win in a matter of days on Tuesday night after beating Derby County by two goals to nil at Pride Park.

The Robins were bound to be feeling full of confidence ahead of their trip to the East Midlands, with Lee Johnson's side picking up their first win of the season at the weekend against QPR.

On Tuesday night, they faced a Derby side that had made an unbeaten start to life in the Championship under Phillip Cocu - the Rams drawing 2-2 against Stoke City last time out.

But Cocu's men failed to replicate the same gritty, determined performance that they put in against the Potters, and were made to pay when Andi Weimann and Josh Brownhill struck for City in the first half.

Substitute Jack Marriott made the Robins sweat in the final stages of the contest, but it was too little too late for Derby, with City claiming all three points on the road.

Here, we take a look at three things we learnt about the Robins after their win against the Rams...

Andi Weimann will be so important for them this season

Lee Johnson spoke about the need of bringing in a new, tenacious forward to the club in the summer transfer window, with the Robins bringing in Benik Afobe on Deadline Day.

But on Tuesday night, Weimann proved what a real asset he can be for the Robins when he plays up top, after putting in a majestic display against his former side.

He got his just rewards for being in the right place at the right time for the first goal of the night, and his clever attacking instincts were there for all to see when he dummyed Jack Hunt's cross, which subsequently found Brownhill who slammed home.

He ran the channels so well all night and looked excellent alongside Afobe in a front two, and he will be massively important for them this season.

3-5-2 is the way forward

For the second league game running, Lee Johnson deployed a 3-5-2 formation that worked particularly well against the Rams. Every player looked well-drilled and like they knew what their role was, and their game-plan worked to a tee.

Nathan Baker, Taylor Moore and Tomas Kalas looked solid all night, the two wing-backs, Tommy Rowe and Hunt bombed forward and provided real width going forward.

Brownhill and Han-Noah Massengo looked lively all night and looked like a really balanced duo in midfield, whilst Kasey Palmer was a nuisance in the hole, feeding Afobe and Weimann with teasing through balls throughout the night.

They have so many talented players that can suit this system, and you would expect potential new signing Ashley Williams to fit right into it as well. Johnson confirming in the post-match press conference, which FLW attended, that there hasn't been any negotiations as of yet between the club and the Wales international.

Han-Noah Massengo could be a City star

The night gave Massengo the opportunity to showcase what he is all about, after making the £8m move from AS Monaco to Ashton Gate in the summer.

The 18-year-old didn't do anything special, he didn't pull off four roulettes and fire the ball into the top corner from 40 yards, but the tenacious midfielder instead kept things simple and looked a class act in the middle of the park.

He looked calm under pressure with some really neat touches, picked out an array of passes, and wasn't afraid to get into a battle with the likes of Krystian Bielik and Tom Huddlestone.

He is so quick on the turn, and it's clear to see why he became the youngest French player ever to feature in a Champions League fixture last season. He could turn out to be a real star in years to come.
