Bristol City were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Blackburn Rovers yesterday afternoon, with The Robins dropping even more points from winning positions at Ashton Gate.

Callum O'Dowda opened the scoring in the 34th minute, capitalising on a positive start from the home side.

The hosts limited the away side to very little in the first half, and that theme was present at the start of the second half too.

Ben Brereton Diaz restored parity in the 75th minute when his thumping effort from an acute angle managed to squeeze past Dan Bentley.

Here, we take a look at three things we learnt about Bristol City yesterday afternoon...

Ayman Benarous has a very high ceiling

Ayman Benarous started for the very first time in the Championing against Blackburn, with the 18-year-old possessing lots of attacking drive and confidence.

In what was an excellent debut for the young, attacking midfielder, it will definitely make Robins fans think about how good Benarous can be in the future.

Bristol City possess a lot of youthful attacking quality, with Benarous being the latest debutant to showcase his ability on the first-team stage.

It remains to be seen how many first-team opportunities he will get this season, but after his performance yesterday, it is likely that he will be seen a lot more.

Robins unable to capitalise on a good performance

Bristol City were completely in control of the contest when half time struck, but they could have even taken a bigger advantage into the break.

The Robins had plenty of opportunities in the first half and they really restricted a Blackburn side with a considerable amount of attacking threat.

Brereton Diaz's equaliser was an avoidable one, which will make the point a little disappointing, but it was a performance that suggests that they can kick on from here.

Callum O'Dowda shows his quality once more

O'Dowda's season has been majorly disrupted this season, with yesterday being just his fifth start of the Championship campaign.

Not only did he score, but he was a constant menace on the left flank, helping his side progress up the pitch and causing a threat in the final third.

The 26-year-old came up against Ryan Nyambe who has proven to be excellent this season, but O'Dowda gave him a torrid time.
