Bolton Wanderers' poor run of form continued on Tuesday night, with a disappointing 2-0 defeat away at Stoke City.

Gary Rowett's men dominated proceedings from start to the finish, and took the lead through a Bruno Martins Indi header after only ten minutes.

Tom Ince was tremendous throughout the game, he set up Martins Indi for his goal and then sealed all three points for the Potters in the 74th minute with a low drive.

The result leaves the Wanderers with just one win in their last seven league outings, and Phil Parkinson's men now sit 15th in the Championship table after four wins, three draws and four defeats.

Here, we take a look at three things we learnt about Bolton Wanderers in their 2-0 defeat to Stoke City on Tuesday night...

Parkinson's men had only 41% possession on Tuesday night, and gave the ball away on multiple occasions, which is perhaps one of the most disappointing factors of the night from a Bolton perspective.

The Trotters have many quality options on the ball, and they need to learn how to keep the ball better when they have it, in order to win many more games.

Ameobi hasn't featured since sustaining an ankle injury against QPR four weeks ago, and the Wanderers haven't really been the same since having won just once in four league games since the winger's injury.

The 26-year old has been a quality performer for Bolton in his two year stint with the club, and you'd struggle to find a 6-foot-4 player who can carry the ball up the pitch like he does - his return will be beneficial for the Trotters.

After surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth last term, it was always going to be a tough season ahead, especially with the financial issues the club faced at the start of this season regarding unpaid wages etc.

Parkinson, on the whole, has done a magnificent job at the helm of the Trotters, and after a magnificent start to the season, they will be fine under Parkinson's guidance this season.
