Birmingham City failed to close the gap on the top six as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Saturday.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Pep Clotet's side who will feel aggrieved that Aleksandar Mitrovic wasn't penalised for a barge on Marc Roberts in the build up to the Serb scoring the only goal of the game.

Whilst the hosts played well in periods, they couldn't find the breakthrough and the result has seen the side fall into the bottom half of the Championship and they are six points away from the play-offs.

So, it was a pretty significant setback for Blues and here we look at THREE things we clearly learnt from their defeat...

Bringing in a new keeper in January has to be a priority

Even though the Cottagers only goal could have been a foul on Roberts, the reality is that Lee Camp should have done a lot better in goal.

He somehow failed to collect the cross and was punished by Mitrovic. Unfortunately, it's not the first blunder the stopper has made this season and signing a keeper to challenge Camp in January has to be a priority.

They can compete with the best in this league

Despite the loss, there were some positives for Blues to take and they will be encouraged by the way they competed against one of the better sides in the league.

They kept the ball well at times, got off a lot of shots, although they weren't as creative in the final third as they should have been.

Nevertheless, it was a pretty even game decided by a mistake.

Scoring goals is a problem

Another blank in front of goal means that only two teams have scored fewer goals than Blues in the Championship this season.

Clearly, that's a massive problem for Clotet and one that he will need to resolve in the January window as well.
