Barnsley moved up to fifth in the League One table after a convincing 2-0 win over Peterborough at Oakwell yesterday.

The Tykes were impressive from the off and goals from Alex Mowatt and Cauley Woodrow in either half were enough to given the hosts an important win.

That leaves Daniel Stendel's side eight points away from the automatic promotion places, although they do have a game in hand on most sides above them.

After a three-game winless run that appeared to dent their chances of making the top two, the German boss will hope these back-to-back victories are the catalyst for a strong second half to the campaign.

And, here we look at THREE things we learnt from that win over Posh...

Perhaps worryingly for Barnsley this season, they had come unstuck against the better sides in the league.

Of the current top six, before yesterday they'd only beaten Luton and even that was a very close game that could've gone either way, whilst they suffered defeats at Charlton and Sunderland.

Therefore, even though Steve Evans' side are on a bad run, it will give the group confidence that they beat a top six side.

The victory continued the Tykes unbeaten record at Oakwell this season and that is very impressive.

Whilst they probably have one or two draws more than Stendel would've wanted, it shows that they are a real force on their own patch and that is vital for a side trying to compete for promotion.

Given that, fans should be confident about what the season holds for Barnsley now and they will fancy their chances of kicking on.

You could argue that they have one of the best squads in the league and if they can maintain their high standards from recent games then a top two finish isn't out the question.
