The new formation showed progress

Luton decided to try a different system when they travelled to Millwall on Wednesday as they once again tried to avoid an away defeat. They played with three centre-backs and two wing-backs and for much of the game the system was working and allowing them to remain defensively solid throughout.

In the end, Millwall brought on an extra attacker and as soon as it went 1-1, it only looked like one side was going to win. There is something for Jones to build on with this new look style now, and he can go into January looking for players that fit the style.

Experienced reinforcements needed

It's evident that the Hatters need some sort of experience in this side. It doesn't necessarily mean that the players coming have to be older, but more ones that have had a solid amount of game time in the Championship, which many of these haven't before this season.

It is vital that they fix this in the January window as that knowing what to do when you go 1-0 up in a game is so important and has cost the side a large number of points throughout the current season.

Park the bus away from home

This is one thing that Jones and his side need to learn to do. Yes, it's okay playing with two wingers and searching for the win but sometimes he has to admit to himself that he doesn't have the quality in the side to play attacking football and should park the bus whilst playing on the counter-attack.

If they can setup for a point and limit the opposition then they will find themselves picking up more draws, which may help them come their final points tally.
