Bristol City got themselves back to winning ways yesterday afternoon with a convincing 3-0 victory over Luton Town at Ashton Gate to move the Robins closer to the playoff places.

Marley Watkins netted inside the first few minutes with a diving header from Niclas Eliasson's cross, before Famara Diedhiou converted a penalty moments before half-time after Jack Hunt was tripped inside the area.

With City in cruise control during the second half, Andreas Weimann sealed all three points as he swept home from Jack Hunt's low cross at the near post.

Here, we take a look at three things we learned about Bristol City from their weekend win...

Watkins can still be an asset

Striker Marley Watkins was deployed on the right side of midfield for Luton's visit, and in just his third start of the season, he performed admirably.

His work-rate both in attacking and defensive situations helped to start and stop attacks for the hosts, while his strength on the ball helped the Robins maintain possession.

He was another focal point for Eliasson to aim for inside the box, and he gave Hunt the valuable support when defending down the right.

While Watkins has been used scarcely this campaign, he has stood up to the test when Lee Johnson has called upon him.

Eliasson has improved his defensive side

Winger Eliasson showed some flashy skills while on the ball against Luton, but his defensive ability shone through during the course of the 90 minutes.

Not often marked out for being good defensively, he surprised many as he made the most tackles out of any player on the pitch during the game.

He was tactically aware to his surroundings and he knew when to press the opposition, as well as sticking his foot in during the game to win the ball back.

One moment that had City fans applauding him was when he tracked back 40 yards and timed a slide tackle to perfection on the edge of the area, Robins supporters taking note of how much he has improved off the ball.

Hunt is a pivotal player

Right-back Hunt has been a regular in defence since signing for the Robins in 2018, but he is continuing to prove his worth to the club as they push for the top six.

Being named Man of the Match on Sunday, he had an involvement in two goals as he got forward well to overlap Watkins, while also being solid defensively as he was up against the experienced Kazenga LuaLua.

Hunt made an impressive clearance off the line as he hooked a Harry Cornick shot away while 2-0 up, and he wasn't fazed by anything that came towards him down the right-hand side.
