Blackburn Rovers finished 15th in the Championship last season and will be hoping to have another solid season in 2019/20, as they may fancy themselves for a top half finish.

Tony Mowbray has done a great job at Ewood Park over the last few years, getting them back into the Championship and now establishing them as a solid mid-table side.

Ambitions for the new season are uncertain - a few fans may think they are good enough for the top six but the squad is not really good enough to compete for a playoff spot.

Tony Mowbray will hope to have a steady season regardless, though, with Rovers already welcoming a couple of new signings through the door.

Here, we list three things Mowbray will be looking for from his Blackburn side over pre-season.

Do you agree, or can you think of another thing he may be looking for from his side in the pre-season schedule, as they prepare for a big season? Let us know in the comments section below.

A stronger defence

Blackburn conceded 69 goals in the Championship last season, which was one of the worst defensive tallies outside of the bottom three.

If Rovers are to have a good season this time, they must fix their leaky defence, which struggled especially on the road in the 18/19 season.

Over the pre-season schedule, Mowbray will be drilling his defenders and looking for solidarity at the back.

New signings to gel

Blackburn have thus far announced two signings - Bradley Johnson from Derby and Stewart Downing from Middlesborough, both joining on a free transfer.

This adds experience to Blackburn’s ranks and with a couple new additions, potentially some younger faces, Blackburn can build a nice squad for the new season.

Mowbray will use pre-season to allow these players to get used to the team and gel, which will be crucial ahead of August.

Bradley Dack to stay motivated

With many clubs linked to Bradley Dack window after window, Blackburn need to ensure they keep their star man happy and motivated.

It looks like he will remain at Ewood Park for this season, so Mowbray must do all he can to ensure Dack is motivated to help the team prosper going into the new campaign.

In pre-season, Mowbray will be able to tell from Dack’s attitude whether he is ready to step up and be a star again.
