Reading take on Bolton Wanderers in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday afternoon following a week of uncertainty surrounding the future of Royals boss Steve Clarke.

Clarke was understood to be taking over the reins at Championship rivals Fulham but, for now, he remains in charge at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals are stuck in a disappointing run of form, and haven't won in over a month, while Neil Lennon's Bolton are desperately struggling near the bottom of the table.

The Trotters have only picked up one victory in their opening 16 league games, and are the lowest scorers in the division, having only found the back of the net just ten times.

It should be an interesting contest at the Madejski Stadium, and FootballLeagueWorld writer Matt Clayton identifies three things to look out for on Saturday...

1) Steve Clarke's Reception

It will be interesting to see what kind of a reception Steve Clarke receives from the Reading faithful after holding talks with Fulham whilst still being in charge of Reading.

It would be understandable if the fans are annoyed with Clarke after speaking to Fulham, questions will be asked about his commitment to the club if whenever another club comes knocking he is willing to hear them out.

It is likely that the fans will get behind the team as normal after perhaps venting some frustration towards Clarke or amongst themselves, but you sense that Clarke need to start winning games fast for people to begin to forget the events of the past 24 hours.

2) Bolton desperately need a win

Bolton are 23rd in the Championship with just 11 points from 16 games this season.

Manager Lennon needs a win for his side or they could potentially be cut adrift from the sides above them.

With just 10 goals in 16 games Bolton are the lowest scorers in the league and have also conceded 22 goals - a chief reason why they are second bottom.

However, they do have players capable of getting them out of trouble.

A side lacking goals and conceding them is going to be low on confidence but, if Bolton could somehow grind a result away to Reading, it would be a big result.

3) Reading looking to avoid back-to-back defeats

Reading have had a promising season so far and sit eighth in the Championship, four points off of sixth with 24 points from 16 games.

Clarke's side lost their last match in the league 2-0 away to Cardiff City, and won't want to suffer back-to-back defeats when they are trying to keep pace with the top of the table.

Clarke may see this game as a chance to bounce back with a win as Bolton are struggling on and off the pitch this season.

However, he won't be taking Bolton lightly as he will know they need a win.
