Jamie Ward's first-half strike was enough to give Nottingham Forest victory over QPR in an uneventful Championship FA Cup third-round tie.

Forest head into this tie unbeaten in their last 13 matches - a run that leaves Dougie Freedman’s side in 11th place, just seven points away from the play-offs.

A strike just before half time from Watford’s Troy Deeney was enough to book the North Londoners a place in the next round of the competition, overcoming fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle United 1-0 at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets have been performing well above expectations as they sit in tenth in the top flight, and have won five out of their last ten games.

The City Ground will not be an easy place for the Premier League side to visit though. Forest have picked up nine points in their last five Championship games and will have almost 30,000 people backing their team.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Ashley Williams identifies three things to look out for in this afternoon's tie…

1) Pantilimon and Amrabat debuts

Nordin Amrabat and Costel Pantilimon are both in line to make their full debuts for the visitors on Saturday afternoon.

Watford signed the Sunderland goalkeeper on Tuesday last week and will have the opportunity to impress manager Quique Sanchez Flores.

Amrabat was signed from Malaga on Monday and made 15 appearances for the La Liga side last year.

The striker also has 23 caps for Morocco and the Watford boss revealed that the Moroccan has the qualities that the club desire. He will want to prove himself in English football, starting at Forest this afternoon.

2) Sanchez Flores set to make changes

It is often familiar that when Premier League sides face lower league opposition that they give fringe players or youngsters the opportunity to impress.

Sanchez Flores is likely to use this weekend's trip to the City Ground to give some of his first-team players a rest ahead of the visit of champions Chelsea in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Watford have failed to win their last three games on the road and could be in for a uncomfortable afternoon if they continue their ways away from home.

3) Can Forest continue their unbeaten streak?

Forest face their toughest test yet to see how far they can go unbeaten in all competitions.

The last time the Championship side lost was back on the 21st November – losing 2-1 to Brentford.

The run has seen them climb from struggling in the league to a side that is in contention for a late play-off push.

Forest will have to take advantage of a slightly weakened side and even a replay would not be a bad result for them.
