Leeds United will welcome Bristol City to Elland Road this afternoon, with the home side looking to return to winning ways.

Steve Evans' Leeds host Bristol City this afternoon (3pm kick-off)

Leeds will play their first game without their influential midfielder Sam Byram, who this week made a move to Premier League side West Ham United.

It remains to be seen whether the club will suffer without Byram, however Steve Evans' side really can not afford to lose any more momentum on the back of two losses in the league.

Such form leaves the club 17th, yet they will be hopeful of overturning fellow strugglers Bristol City today.

The Robins on the other hand caused one of the shocks of the season last time out in the league, with John Pemberton’s team beating league leaders Middlesbrough 1-0 at Ashton Gate.

The Robins will be looking to replicate that result in today’s game and could jump out of the bottom three of the Championship with a victory.

A defeat today for Evans’ men could lure them back towards the bottom three, and they really need to step up their game in this bottom of the table clash.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Ashley Williams identifies three things to look out for in this afternoon's game...

1) Alex Pearce and Ben Gladwin debuts

Bristol City will be boosted by their two new loan signings this week in their relegation battle.

Gladwin had been on loan to League One side Swindon Town this season and impressed at the County Ground. The midfielder is expected to be thrown straight into the first team line-up today, and could be an influential player at Ashton Gate for the remainder of the season.

Pearce has joined to the end of the season from high-flying Derby County. The Irish international is desperate to prove that he is an established defender to cement a spot in Euro 2016 in France with the Republic of Ireland.

This will be a great opportunity for Pearce and is expected to get more game time than he has with Derby.

2) Six pointer clash

This is a massive game for both sides lurking at the bottom of the league.

The Robins picked up an unexpected three points over top of the table Middlesbrough, and that will give them huge confidence for today’s clash.

Prior to that victory, they had lost four in six games, which ultimately led to the sacking of Steve Cotterill.

The Whites meanwhile are winless in five games and have lost back-to-back games, which will be a cause for concern for manager Evans. This afternoon gives them a perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways.

3) The return of Chris Wood

Leeds United boss Evans will welcome Chris Wood back into the squad for the clash with Bristol City.

The striker has returned to training with the first team squad this week after recovering from the hamstring injury that has kept him out of the last four games.

The side have missed the top scorer’s impact up-front and his return today will give the side a boost in such an important fixture.
