Ipswich host table toppers Hull City at Portman Road tonight looking to resolve their slump in form.

The Trotters have lost their last two previous league games that have seen them fall behind the chasing pack for the play-offs.

They have severely missed their dynamic midfielder Jonathan Douglas who returns tonight after serving a three-game ban for a straight red card in the 3-0 loss at Birmingham last month. It is likely that he will replace Kevin Foley in the centre of midfield.

Hull have been on a steady run in the league and picked up a credible draw in the FA Cup at Arsenal at the weekend.

Steve Bruce is likely to call on his key players after resting several of his star men in the Gunners draw.

The Tigers will guarantee their position at the summit if they can beat Play-Off chasing Ipswich Town. Should they slip up, however, Burnley could climb to top spot with a win over Nottingham Forest at Turf Moor.

Daryl Murphy vs Michael Dawson

Hull have conceded just three goals since the turn of the year and that will stand them in good stead to earn a big Championship win tonight.

Michael Dawson was rested as the Tigers notched a seventh clean-sheet in nine games when holding Arsenal to a 0-0 draw on Saturday, but will reclaim the captaincy at Portman Road.

The 32-year-old has picked up where he left off before injuries struck in November and December, playing with composure and authority in each of City's last three league outings.

Daryl Murphy has been unable to recapture the form that made him the Championship's top goalscorer last season but his physicality still has to be controlled.

Is it now or never for Ipswich?

Ipswich really need to break out of this stutter of form, and have been in around the top six for the majority of the season.

Mick McCarthy's side have fought to stay in touch with the play-offs on limited resources but three defeats in their last four league games have left them playing catch-up inside the final third of the season.

The worst defence in the top half of the division is making life difficult and it grows harder to picture a route into the play-offs for a second year running.

Ipswich's lack of transfer activity last month ensures optimism is in short supply.

Ipswich’s Tuesday night record

Despite the Tractorboys' stutter in form, they seem to enjoy playing on a Tuesday night, after they have won their last 16 consecutive home games on this day.

This remarkable record, dating back three years, is one Hull City must break if they are to maintain their grip on top spot by 10pm tonight.

Ipswich need a victory tonight, and they will be hoping that their Tuesday record can put them back in the frame for the top six, and hope the others around them slip up.
