The Rams will look to change their fortunes around after a torrid run of form – losing three in five and winless since Boxing Day.

The club’s slump of form has seen them drop from the top of table to questioning whether they can stay in the play-off places.

Derby have suffered heavy defeats to Manchester United and Burnley of late and need to start picking up points as we enter the final quarter of the season.

Preston have been on a reasonable run that has seen them distance themselves from the bottom three places in the league.

Prior to their 3-1 defeat to Brentford in their previous game, they have picked up 10 points in their last 4 games which has given them improved hope of remaining in the Championship for another season.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies THREE things to look out for in the game…..

1) Must win game for Derby

This is a crucial game for Derby and Paul Clement has issued that February is a massive month for the club in their chase for promotion.

They have really taken their foot off the gas in the last few months and lost their way defensively – conceding plenty of goals.

The Rams have conceded as many goals in their last three games in all competitions as they had in the previous 16.

With a side packed with talent, it seems like there has been a lack of character in the squad recently and Clement will be looking to inject some confidence in the players tonight.

2) Marcus Olsson debut

Sweden left-back Marcus Olsson could make his debut for Derby, putting Stephen Warnock's place at risk.

Head coach Paul Clement said Derby had been looking at Olsson for some time and will be hoping that he can provide some defensive stability at the back.

As well as defending, the left back is known for his energetic nature as he looks to constantly overlap his winger.

Olsson will want to make an immediate impression with life at Derby, as Stephen Warnock has impressed in the left back slot for the club.

3) Visitors looking to frustrate

Preston will come to Derby tonight having every confidence that they can pick up a result.

Grayson’s men will be looking to bounce back after their defeat to Brentford.

The pressure is all on Derby tonight as Preston lie 10 points clear of the drop zone and look like a well-organised side at the moment.

If Preston press the Derby players and make sure they have no time on the ball, then I feel that they can get a positive result and Grayson would be happy with a draw.
