Tottenham Hotspur are, for the first time in the Premier League era, in with a serious chance of winning the title.
Not only are they in with a shot of the title, boss Mauricio Pochettino is building a squad capable of challenging on all fronts, including the FA Cup.
Its 15 years since they last lifted the famous trophy, and Pochettino would love nothing else than to win some silverware to enhance his ever growing reputation. After comfortably dispatching Leicester in the last round, he will be keen to avoid a loss to League One opposition.
Colchester on the other hand are not enjoying the most productive of seasons in Englands third tier.
They are rock bottom of League One and have struggled to find any sort of form all season long, which could mean with the attention turned to the cup and no pressure, they may enjoy a better performance.
Here are THREE things to look out for in the game:
1) Spurs’ desire to win
Spurs are likely to rest several top stars, but this does not mean that there will be a shortage of international class players on show.It is highly likely Pochettino will show Colchester the respect they deserve, and a strong 11 will be picked regardless.
Spurs will be desperate to end their FA Cup trophy hiatus, and will see this as a relatively easy way to progress to the next round.
However, in what are likely to be testing weather conditions against a team with nothing to lose, their desire and attitude will be key to negotiating this trick encounter.
2) A break from the norm
Colchester are rock bottom. They are 9 points off safety, and look well on their way to a return to League Two for next season.
However, games such as this can sometimes be a catalyst for things to come, and a win over a Premier League giant can do no harm whatsoever.
It may well be that if the Us can put up at least a solid performance, and cause Spurs some trouble, that they can take this confidence in to their league form and try and put a run together to help stave off relegation.
3) George Moncur
The highly-rated midfielder is the top scorer for the U’s this season with 10 goals, and comes in to this game with a glowing reputation to uphold.
He is being courted by many other teams within the league and the league above, and he will no doubt see this as a platform to display his undoubted ability.
While he may not be ready for top level football just yet, Moncur has an eye for a goal and may well be the key in the U’s causing any sort of cup upset.
It will be interesting to see how he equips himself against top level opposition, and if he can take his game to a higher level than he has already been demonstrating this season.
