The Blues may be the champions for now but they are not going to retain their title. In fact, even getting into the top four will be a tall order, so to win a domestic trophy this season may prove to be some consolation.

Scunthorpe on the other hand having nothing to lose. They are 15th in League One, eight points off the play-offs and seven points clear of the relegation zone, which sees them comfortably in mid table.

Scunthorpe have not beaten a team from the top division since 1970. Since then, two draws and twelve defeats have followed.

Chelsea have made it to the fourth round for 17 consecutive seasons, the last time they failed was all the way back in 1998.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Anthony Yeo identifies three things to look out for in this afternoon’s tie…

1) Diego Costa

The transformation of Diego Costa since Guus Hiddink took over has been substantial, instead of being sulky and seemingly on the field looking for a fight.

He is known for being aggressive without usually going over-the-top, but now he’s chasing down the ball and generally looks as though he’s really trying, unlike before.

Costa is the only fit first choice striker Chelsea have, so if he is up for this game it could be a very long afternoon for the Scunthorpe defence.

2) Paddy Madden

Leading Irons scorer is expected to be fit for the match at Stamford Bridge.

Madden has netted 14 goals this season, including two in the first round of the competition against fellow League One side Southend United.

He has scored almost half of Scunthorpe’s league goals this season, and has attracted some interest from some clubs higher up the English football pyramid.

The Irish forward is vital if the Iron are going to get something from this game.

3) Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Chelsea will name a strong team for this game, but may sprinkle in some of the fringe players such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Loftus-Cheek was not given much game time under former boss Jose Mourinho, and is expected to be given an outing by Hiddink in the third round tie.

The young midfielder will be raring to go and, with a point to prove, I expect him to cause Scunthorpe all sorts of problems if he shows his full potential.
