Blackburn had a bad start to the season under Gary Bowyer but some of the results near the end of his reign were positive such as the 2-0 win at Leeds but the defeat to arch rivals Burnley and too many draws led to his sacking and Paul Lambert was appointed in his place.

In his first game they won 2-1 at Lancashire rivals Preston and have only lost 2 of there last 10 games. They have been solid at the back with only 16 goals conceded but have been poor up front with just the 17 goals with the main contributor being Jordan Rhodes of course with Craig Conway in fine form too assist wise.

They sit 8 points outside the play-offs and are hoping Lambert could lead them there but they'll need some assistance for Rhodes up front.

As for Wednesday they have been resurgent under manager Carlos Carvalhal this season and have made some astute signings like Lucas Joao and Fernando Forestieri who have both made excellent starts to life at Hillsborough.

They have emerged as potential playoff challengers and currently sit in 8th place just a point outside the playoffs. They have pulled off some incredible results like there 3-0 Capital One Cup win over Arsenal and Wednesday fans firmly believe there on there way to the promise land.

Wednesday have won 6 of there last 10 games and only lost once so will go into Saturday's game in confident move.

Here are 3 things to look out for in Saturday's game:

Blackburn's defence

Despite being 13th they have been excellent defensively and there centre halves Grant Hanley and Shane Duffy both made team of the week for there performances against Preston.

They will have a tricky test this weekend with freescoring Wednesday possessing a lot of in form attacking players and this is where the key battles lie.

Joao is top scorer for Wednesday and the young Portuguese striker is attracting many admiring glances for his recent displays and he will be a handful for Blackburn on Saturday as well as the skilful Forestieri. The Blackburn defence will have to be in the top of there game to stop Wednesday's attacking line.

Jordan Rhodes and Craig Conway

Rhodes is of course the most important player for Blackburn and they've done well to keep hold of him in recent seasons.

He has already bagged 9 goals and scored the winner against Preston last week and as one of the best strikers in the division he is expected to get 2o plus goals.

Scottish midfielder Conway is also one of the leading assist makers in the division and his link up play with Rhodes is important to there attacking success as they look to break down the impressive Wednesday defence led by the improving Tom Lees.

Paul Lambert's first home game

Both sides are in form and Blackburn will be boosted by the fact that this is Paul Lambert's first home game.

His tactics will be interesting as we're not sure how he will set up . They have kept 3 clean sheets in there last 6 games and if they contain Joao and Forestieri they could do it again.

Blackburn's home form under Bowyer was abysmal and only have 2 wins at Ewood Park in there last 8 games there and Lambert needs a change in these fortunes if there going to mount a challenge for the play-offs.
