Brighton and Hove Albion have the chance to reignite their flailing promotion ambitions when they visit Blackburn Rovers this afternoon.

The threat of slipping out of the play-off spaces looms large over Chris Hughton's side, after some shocking form which has seen them lose five and draw one in their last six games in all competitions.

In all fairness, this run of form is forgivable, considering the Seagulls went over 20 games unbeaten at the start of the season.

Blackburn meanwhile have stalled somewhat of late after something of a mini revival upon the appointment of manager Paul Lambert, and have now dropped down to 18th place, after dabbling in and out of the lower top half positions.

Rovers do have a game in hand however, and could move up to 14th, ahead of Nottingham Forest on goal difference, should they win and results go their way.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Harry Smith identifies three things to look out for in this afternoon's clash...

1) Brighton's spirit

After a losing streak spanning four games, it will be important for Hughton to give his side a little kick to keep them going and keep turning out.

If they go a couple of goals down early, it will be decisive whether Hughton can regroup his side going into half time and help them turn it around.

Let their heads drop, and they could see this bad run continue at Ewood Park this afternoon.

2) Jordan Rhodes

Every time the transfer window opens, there are multiple rumours surrounding where the English striker might be come the end of the window.

With a move to high flyers Middlesbrough seeming possible, it will be interesting to see whether Rhodes can put this speculation behind him and lead Blackburn to victory this afternoon.

3) Blackburn's mentality

If they are to pick up all three points in this game, Blackburn will have to go out and attack from the off, and put a shaky, confidence-deprived Brighton defence under a lot of pressure.

Do that, and they could establish an early foothold, and with Brighton's lack of a real goalscoring threat, that could be enough to see the game out.
