Blackburn Rovers host play-off hopefuls Birmingham City in tonight’s Championship League action at Ewood Park.
Blackburn are 17th in the table and may be starting to make plans for next season as the play-offs are beyond them this season, and they are not in danger of going down.
Rovers have won three and lost three in their last six games and will face a tough task to pick up points in tonight’s match.
Birmingham are hoping to build on their excellent 1-0 win over former league leaders Hull and make it back to back wins in the league.
The Blues have only won two games in their last six and look to have recovered from the slight wobble to their promotion campaign, Birmingham sit eighth in the table, just one point behind Sheffield Wednesday in sixth..
Here are THREE things to look out for in tonight’s Blackburn Rovers v Birmingham City match……
1) Clayton Donaldson
The 32-year-old striker is having a great impact for Birmingham this season, he has not only scored seven goals so far this term but has played an important role in the way Birmingham play.
He links up the play holds the ball up and relieves the pressure on his defence. He leads the Birmingham attack and is an ever present danger in the front line.
Although he has not scored as many goals as he or Gary Rowett would of liked Birmingham rely on the 32-year-old, and there is no doubt he will cause the Blackburn defence problems tonight.
2) Blackburn’s current home form
Rovers have won the previous three home fixtures scoring eight goals in those games which include a 2-1 victory over high flying Middlesbrough.
It is the home form that has kept Blackburn away from the danger end of the Championship table, and could also be a key factor next season if they want to challenge at the top.
Blackburn will need the Ewood Park home advantage to get points from a very good Birmingham team.
3) Jon Toral
The Arsenal loanee joined Birmingham on a season long loan in the summer and has been crucial in the Blues’ rise up the Championship table.
He scored the decisive goal against Hull taking his goal tally to seven for the season, and will be hoping to bag another tonight and hopefully move Birmingham into the play-off places.
Toral is an all-action midfielder who likes to make late runs into the box, not something the current Blackburn squad are good at picking up.
