Birmingham clash with Leeds tonight with games quickly running out, and really it's only Birmingham with something to play for tonight.

st andrewssss

The Midlands side have looked much improved under Gary Rowett this season after their dismal campaign last year and Rowett has built a play-off challenging side, on a shoestring budget.

They have been a lot better at the back with Michael Morrison shoring up the defence whilst Paul Caddis has been excellent at right back this season.

They have made a series of excellent signings this season with midfielder Maikel Kieftenbeld one of the best, with him costing little but making a big impact.

The Blues have fallen short on the goals front though with them proving very reliant on Clayton Donaldson who's finishing has gone downhill recently.

A lack of goals in the run-in led to Rowett signing Norwich striker Kyle Lafferty on loan as the big man looks to get some game time before Euro 2016.

Birmingham need to win tonight for a chance at the play-offs with them sitting nine points off, but with a game in hand. They will be buoyed by there weekend win over Reading ending their dismal run of no wins in five.

Their opponents tonight will be Leeds who have had a rollercoaster season on and off the pitch.

Owner Massimo Cellino has been as controversial as ever with hm nearly selling the club at the start of the season before pulling out.

Half the fans back him for investing in the squad bringing in players like Dallas and Diagouraga but some fans want him out for destabilising the club.

After sacking Rosler earlier in the season, Steve Evans was brought in and he steadied the ship but Leeds have been typically inconsistent and look set for a mid-table finish.

Here are THREE things to look out for in tonight's game......

1) Can Birmingham rebuild momentum

The play- off push at Birmingham looked excellently placed a month ago when they beat Hull 1-0 at home.

But they then went on a run of no wins in 5 games with disappointing defeats at struggling Charlton and Blackburn.

This has been down to a lack of goals with Clayton Donaldson's finishing well under par as well as inconsistency from several midfielders.

But the 2-0 win over an improving Reading side leaves them mome points off the playoffs with a game in hand and tonight is a must win if they are to make the top six.

They could get some real momentum going with a win and a few sides in the play-offs like Sheffield Wednesday and Hull are in shaky form.

2) Kyle Lafferty

As I was saying the main problem for Birmingham in there recent poor run was a lack of goals, with just 5 goals in 10 games, before the weekend win.

Clayton Donaldson and Brock Madsen are there only recognised strikers and they were badly misfiring in this run, causing Rowett to take action.

He took Lafferty on loan from Norwich with the Northern Ireland striker finding his chances limited.

He was in excellent form for his country leading them to Euro 2016 and is looking for game time at Birmingham to prepare.

Lafferty is a big physical presence and gives Rowett some good options up front, he can give any defence especially the leaky Leeds one problems.

3) Leeds look to end dismal run

Leeds were on good form in March picking up big wins over Blackburn, Bolton and Cardiff to keep them away from the bottom 3.

But Leeds have been typically inconsistent and since then have lost 3 out of 4 games including defeats to rivals Huddersfield and Rotherham.

Still, the 2-0 win at Cardiff shows their ability to damage sides and if it wasn't for Wood's poor finishing at Burnley then they would of got something there, and if they click tonight they may very well end Birmingham's promotion challenge.
