Birmingham may have drawn the last game with Preston North End, but they could have easily won the game with the amount of chances and their general all round play.

Manager Gary Rowett believes his side dropping out of the top six has given them a kick start, and has made them produce some of their best football.

Cardiff are one place outside the play-offs, and a win tonight would see them climb into the top-six. Cardiff overcame a talented Brentford team 3-2 on Tuesday in a thrilling encounter at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Manager Russell Slade will be hoping they can continue to beat the sides around them to cement a top-six spot.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Anthony Yeo identifies three things to look out for in this evening's match...

1) Demarai Gray

The 19-year-old is certainly due a goal.

The wide man is usually in amongst the goals, but has netted just once so far this term - in Birmingham's 2-0 away win at Leeds United back at the start of October.

However, the lively player is still a threat in creating goals for the Blues, and tonight could be his night a goal for a big time player in a big game to produce a big performance.

2) Cardiff's away form

Cardiff's away form is not at all sparkling, with only one win in their last seven away games. It's form that needs to be improved if they are to get into the top-six come May.

Scoring has also not been easy to come by for the Welsh team, and they tend to draw their away fixtures, something they will need to change as the season progresses.

This could be a time to change this with the play-off birth within reach.

3) Kenwyne Jones

The Cardiff striker was in excellent form against Brentford, and is looking to build on Tuesday's performance and heap some misery on the Birmingham faithful.

The former Premier League star will play a vital role in Cardiff's promotion challenge, and Blues defenders will have to be at their best to get a result this evening.
