Saturday’s FA Cup tie at the Weston Homes Community Stadium sees two sides meet who will be keen for a distraction from their poor league positions.

Both sides are currently second-bottom of their respective divisions – League One and the Championship – so will be hopeful that a successful cup run will help kick-start their league campaign.

On top of this, both sides have relatively new managers at the helm, who will still be keen to impress the fans as they embark on a nervy second half of the season.

Many may see this game as a potential opportunity for a shock.

Here are THREE things to look out for in the match:

1) Colchester United’s defence

The U’s have by far the worst defence in the top 4 division’s in England, have conceded an eye-watering 59 goals in just 25 games.

Although their goal-scoring isn’t too bad, their defence will have to be far more solid than it has showed for most of this season to get anything out of this game.

Even goal-shy Charlton who have only scored 21 goals in the Championship so far will fancy their chances against the leakiest defence in the country.

2) George Moncur

One thing Colchester can boast however, is a potential match-winner in George Moncur.

The ex-West Ham player has been one of the best performing players in League One this season, and due to this, Championship clubs are reportedly interested.

Whether he will stay in Essex for the foreseeable future remains to be seen, but he will certainly have a huge role to play if Colchester are to progress to the 4th round.

3) Fresh Charlton faces

The Addicks will be able to call upon 3 new players for Saturday’s game as they seek to add greater quality to the squad.

Loanees Diego Poyet and Rhys Williams have been given permission to play, as well new signing Roger Johnson.

Karel Fraeye will hope that his new acquisitions will prove too strong for Colchester United as his side seeks to progress in the FA Cup.
