Newport County will welcome Championship side Blackburn Rovers to Rodney Parade tomorrow afternoon in their FA Cup third round tie.

lamberttt

The South Wales side will make their first appearance in the third round of the cup after reforming in 1989. County are struggling at the bottom end of the table as they lie in 20th place - 3 points adrift of the bottom two.

Despite their poor record, Newport boss John Sheridan has lifted Newport off the bottom of the table with five wins and seven draws, since taking over at the start of October. His success with County has saw him linked with Notts County job.

They have only won twice in their last ten games and are winless in four, but a packed out Rodney Parade will be hoping to spur the Welsh side on to progress to the next round.

Blackburn come into the game in similar form to Newport - losing three consecutive games by a single goal. They face their second Welsh side in a week after losing to Cardiff City 1-0 in their previous Championship game.

The poor pitch conditions that are expected will not suit Rover's style of play and may find it difficult to play a possession game.

Paul Lambert has not enjoyed the best starts at Ewood Park and his job has been complicated further by the fact that they will be without their main striker, Jordan Rhodes who is a injury doubt.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams looks at THREE things to look out for in the game..

1) Elliott Bennett to make his debut

Blackburn completed the signing of Elliott Bennett from Norwich City this week and is expected to start in tomorrow's tie. Bennett has already been on loan with Bristol City this season -  making 15 appearances for the club.

The versatile winger is Paul Lambert's first permanent signing since taking over at the Ewood Park hotseat. The 27 year old has previously worked under Paul Lambert and Bennett has issued the Scotsman was the main reason why he joined the Lancashire side.

The winger will look to make a immediate impact with his new club tomorrow.

2) Rhodes's injury deepens goal drought worries

Rovers have gone 4 games without scoring in the Championship and will now be without their main striker, Jordan Rhodes.

However the club have received some good news that Tom Lawrence's loan has been extended for a further month and is expected to start up front back in his home nation.

Blackburn are one of the lowest scorers in the division after scoring just 22 goals this season.  Rhodes has scored just less than half of them - netting 9.

3) Pitch conditions

The pitch is expected to be in a poor condition, which could make for a scrappy game. Newport will use that to their advantage as the sticky pitch will stop Blackburn from playing and could be detrimental effect on how the game turns out.

The game is expected to go ahead after Newport's previous game with Hartlepool United  was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Newport will look to frustrate Blackburn and they need to play a simple composed game if they are going to succeed to the next round.
