2 steadily improving sides meet at The Valley in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday with both hoping to continue there recent resurgence.

Charlton have lost 7 of there last 10 games which saw manager Guy Luzon sacked and Karel Fraeye placed in interim charge and under his control, Charlton have won 2 games on the bounce against Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham.

Charlton will hope to continue this positive run of form when they meet Ipswich on Saturday and win a 3rd game on the bounce which is something they haven't managed since March.

Charlton have struggled in attack this season with only 15 goals and rather surprisingly loaned out striker Tony Watt to Cardiff. No clear goalscorer has emerged for Charlton which is a major problem and they may need to delve into the January transfer market.

They also have a shaky defence which has conceded 26 goals but Fraeye has got them playing deeper to frustrate opponents like Birmingham where they were able to keep a clean sheet and climb a point clear of the relegation zone.

Ipswich made the playoffs last year before losing to arch rivals Norwich and had a tricky start to the season this time round. But only 2 defeats in there last 10 have seen them steadily climb the table and they now sit in 10th and have won 2 of there last 3.

There attack has been okay this season with Daryl Murphy, who was the divisions top scorer last year, slowly finding form and Brett Pitman, Freddie Sears and the impressive Ainsley Maitland Niles playing well.

However, they have struggled at the back with left-back Jonas Knudsen struggling to fill the void left by Tyrone Mings and the centre back pairing of Christophe Berra and Tommy Smith unable to recapture last seasons form.

They'll be without David McGoldrick for the trip to the Valley and the game comes too soon for Teddy Bishop.

Here are 3 things to look out for:

Karel Fraeye's defensive tactics

Charlton's leaky defence was the main reason leading to the sacking of Guy Luzon and is the biggest challenge facing Fraeye during his reign.

So far he is simply playing a very deep defensive line, effectively soaking up pressure and parking the bus and subsequently providing no attacking threat. It didn't work against Middlesbrough but did work well in there last game against Birmingham where they soaked up a lot of pressure and kept an impressive clean sheet by just playing a deep line.

Chris Solly returns to the team on Saturday and it will be interesting to see if Fraeye implements this tactic again to frustrate Murphy and Pitman.

Ipswich to dominate midfield

Ipswich are fully expected to dominate the midfield on Saturday with The Addicks playing a deep defensive line and they will be the key in whether the Tractor Boys can unlock the Charlton defence.

Jonathan Douglas was excellent for Ipswich against Wolves last weekend and he will hope to continue his good form while the experienced Cole Skuse will be key alongside Kevin Bru to the game.

Charlton will be depending on captain Johnnie Jackson, Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Alou Diarra to stifle this midfield and prevent Mick McCarthy's men from creating many chances.

Strikers

Ipswich will know that Charlton will attempt a smash in grab so Berra and Smith will have to be focused on Saturday.

Charlton have a big problem up front with no striker emerging as prolific but they will hope the recent signing of Ricardo Vaz Te will give them some pace up front.

Murphy has been improving steadily this season and he will have to take the few chances he gets against the deep line of Charlton and hope Sears and Pitman do the same. It is all about clinical finishing against 2 struggling defences.
