Birmingham City have enjoyed a reasonably solid start to the season under Pep Clotet so far, with the Blues currently sitting in 11th place in the Championship just two points off the play-off places, following back to back wins against Blackburn Rovers and Luton Town.

That start will have Birmingham supporters feeling positive thoughts about the rest of the campaign, with the Blues looking like they are starting to find some real momentum under Clotet, especially at St Andrews, which could see them mount a play-off challenge during the rest of the campaign.

However, as all Birmingham fans will be aware life is not always easy supporting the Blues, with the club going through a number a darker periods and having to suffer through poor periods of form, or just terrible individual moments in matches.

Here then, on Halloween we take a look at THREE past incidents that will still frighten or haunt Birmingham supporters...

The pain of the final day relegation

Birmingham City suffered a heartbreaking relegation that will still haunt the Blues supporters on the final day of the 2010/11 Premier League season, with a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur condemning the club to life back in the Championship after a two-year stay in the top flight.

The Blues looked like they were going to enjoy a memorable season for all the right reasons, with Birmingham winning the League Cup and beating Arsenal 2-1 in the final at Wembley thanks to a late winner from Obafemi Martins, whilst also sitting comfortably in mid table heading into the final few months of the campaign under Alex McCleish.

However, following their League Cup triumph the Blues went on a disastrous run of form losing eight of their final 13 matches to slip down the table and into the bottom three - and Birmingham went into the final day of the season knowing that if they bettered the results of Blackpool and Wigan Athletic they would survive, and Craig Gardner's stunning equaliser gave them hope, before a late winner from Roman Pavlyuchenko sent them down.

Birmingham's recent record against Aston Villa

Birmingham supporters will also feel somewhat haunted by the Blues' recent record against fierce rivals Aston Villa in the Second City Derby, with the club failing to beat their rivals in any of the last eight meetings, since beating them 2-1 at St Andrews in the League Cup back in December 2010.

The Blues have lost five out of those eight meetings, including all of the last three with Aston Villa securing the double over Birmingham last term, recovering from a goal down to win 4-2 at Villa Park last November, before securing a 1-0 win at St Andrews in March with a second half winner by scored by Jack Grealish.

Birmingham had to watch their rivals earn promotion to the Premier League last season, meaning the two sides will not meet in the league this campaign, and the Blues will be desperate to face Aston Villa again so that they can look to turn around their poor recent record in the derby and reclaim some of the local bragging rights.

The 8-0 thrashing at home to Bournemouth

Another incident that will probably still frighten Birmingham supporters is the performance the Blues produced in their record 8-0 defeat against Bournemouth at St Andrews during the 2014/15 season, with the game coming following the club's decision to sack then manager Lee Clark with the side in 21st place in the table.

Birmingham, under caretaker manager Malcom Crosby, got of to a nightmare start conceding in the third minute, before defender David Edgar was sent off just seven minutes into the game - and the Blues did at least show some signs of fight in the rest of the first half, though they did concede two just before the break to go in 3-0 behind.

However, what happened in the second half was a true defensive horror show, with Bournemouth firing in five goals, three of which came in the last six minutes as Birmingham appeared to just throw in the towel in the closing exchanges, with Marc Pugh registering a hat trick for the visitors, and the Blues left to pick up the pieces from their worst ever home defeat.
