Paul Lambert has arrived at Ipswich Town with plenty of work to do after Paul Hurst was relieved of his duties as club manager last week.

The former Shrewsbury Town manager won just once in the opening 14 matches of the league season before losing his job, leaving the Tractor Boys rock-bottom of the Championship table.

Lambert was relegated from the Premier League last season with Stoke City after taking over from Mark Hughes in January, but despite a slight upturn in form, was sacked at the end of the campaign.

A bottom of the table clash will be Lambert's first port of call on Saturday when Preston North End are welcomed to Portman Road

Alex Neil's side sit in 20th at the moment, but an Ipswich win would bring them to within two points of each other.

There is plenty that needs sorting at the Suffolk club before the fans can expect a run of positive results, however.

So, here are THREE things that need to be on Paul Lambert's to-do list...

The Tractor Boys scored have scored in just one of their last five matches.

This points to a massive lack of confidence in their strikers, and with Freddie Sears and Kayden Jackson the only available options, Lambert must build their confidence immediately.

Ipswich's away form has been utterly dire so far this season.

All but two of their matches on the road have ended in defeat this season, and although their home form remains okay, it is not good enough to compensate for such poor away results.

It sounds obvious but it really is a necessity now.

They have a brilliant chance for two wins in the next two games against North End and Reading.

He really must be winning both.
