Queens Park Rangers had a disappointing season overall that ended with the sacking of manager Steve McClaren.

The R’s had a terrible start to the campaign, and McClaren’s job looked in doubt as early as a few weeks into the season, but a few late summer signings revitalised the team and they improved.

They actually went on a great run around the Christmas period, climbing to around the playoff positions, but 2019 saw a poor run of form that put them near the bottom of the table again.

Now, with Mark Warburton in charge, QPR have a chance to rise from this bottom half of mid-table area they find themselves in and have a good go at a top half finish next season.

It’ll be tough, but in Warburton they have a good manager, who with a few signings could do a great job.

Here, we list three things that need to be at the top of QPR and Warburton’s agenda this summer.

Sort out the defence

Outside of the three relegated teams, QPR had the worst defence in the division, and this must be sorted out next season.

Keeping the stalwart defender Toni Leistner but be top of the list, but Warburton should go back into the window for another defender to solidify his teams' defence.

If they can sort this out, they will have a better campaign.

Sign a new striker

Between Tomer Hemed and Nakhi Wells, the main two strikers at Loftus Road, just 14 goals were scored, with each getting seven each.

This is not good enough in a 46 game season, and QPR must address this in the summer.

Whether they spend big money on a proven goalscorer, or take a gamble with a young loanee from the Premier League or a cheaper option from abroad, QPR must sign someone that will win them games.

Keep their star men

With QPR underperforming, a few of their star men could be tempted away from Loftus Road this summer.

Luke Freeman is probably their star performer, with young Ebere Eze potentially subject to interest from elsewhere.

As well as investing with signings, Warburton must make sure he doesn’t let any of his star performers go this summer.
