Swansea's recent assault on the play-off places recently took a blow, after a 2-1 defeat to Rotherham United at the weekend.

The Swans had led through an early strike from Oli McBurnie before a late brace from Ryan Manning condemned Graham Potter's men to their third defeat in five league games.

Swansea's form has been on and off this season and will be hoping to get back to winning ways this weekend with a trip to Bolton Wanderers on the horizon.

They have a good squad on paper, but will it be enough to finish in the top six this season?

Here, we take a look at three things that could seriously de-rail Swansea’s Premier League promotion push...

McBurnie has been fantastic for the Swans this term, netting seven goals and producing two assists in 16 games for the Welsh side.

He gives Swansea a different dimension up front, and if he keeps up his form in front of goal, he's bound to have bigger clubs circling around him.

It's no secret that Swansea have had their fair share of injuries this season - a period in which saw a makeshift midfield duo of right-back Kyle Naughton and youngster Matt Grimes.

If injuries continue to occur, then this could have a detrimental impact on Swansea's promotion push.

With that being said, Swansea need to make reinforcements in midfield in January.

They cannot afford to be weak in midfield, plus too much pressure is put in Bersant Celina to create the Swans' attacks.

They need a creative, box-to-box midfielder.
