Bristol Rovers grabbed their first away win of the season yesterday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Sincil Bank.

The Imps boasted a 100% record at home going into the game and hadn't conceded a goal in their opening three matches. On the flip side, Graham Coughlan's side hadn't scored away from home and were without a point.

On a tough afternoon for the home side, playing their first game without manager Danny Cowley, Rovers grabbed all three points courtesy of a second-half penalty by Jonson Clarke-Harris, after Tom Nichols and Neal Eardley came together in the area.

With the hoodoo off their back, the Gas can now move forward and look to improve their points tally away from home. Their supporters, all 417 that made the journey to Lincoln, will have learnt a little about their side yesterday.

We look at three things they'll take away from the fixture...

You Need Luck

The game was decided by two key moments, one penalty shout waved away and another given.

Both decisions were marginal and could have gone either way but Rovers came down on the lucky side both times. Their penalty was soft but, in a game of tight margins, you sometimes need fortune shining on you.

That was certainly the case for the Gas yesterday.

Tyler Smith Chance

Smith came on late in the game and added an element of energy and endeavour to their front line. Tom Nichols, although he won the penalty, was largely anonymous and surely moving forward the Sheffield United loanee is worthy of a chance.

He almost added a second as the game entered its final stages with some smart play and although he came on against tired defenders, he looked to be the spark their attack had been missing.

Surely, his chance is coming.

Ed Upson Importance

Ed Upson replaced Alex Rodman in the midfield and it gave them a more balanced and centralised focus.

Upson has lots of experience and although he's not quite at his levels just yet, his quality did show through. He works well with Ollie Clarke and together they've can form the nucleus of a strong team.

The Gas need to keep him fit and get him firing on all cylinders.
