After securing a 17th place finish in the Championship last season, Birmingham City have made an encouraging start to life under caretaker head coach Pep Clotet.

Drafted in as a replacement for Garry Monk earlier this summer, the Spaniard has made some slight alterations to the Blues' style of play which has resulted in the club being able to amass a total of 10 points from their first six games.

Following an impressive 1-0 victory over Brentford on the opening day of the 2019/20 campaign, Birmingham produced another promising display in their 1-1 draw with Bristol City.

Since these two clashes, the Blues have looked incredibly assured at St Andrew's but all at sea whilst playing away from home.

With the international break giving Clotet a chance to assess his side's progress, it will be intriguing to see whether he opts to make any major changes when they head to The Valley to face Charlton Athletic on September 14th.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out three things that the Birmingham boss will have learned about his players during the opening weeks of the season.

Check them out below...

Lukas Jutkiewicz is simply irreplaceable up-front

After providing 24 goal contributions for the Blues last season, Lukas Jutkiewicz has managed to carry this form over into the current campaign.

Majestic whilst playing in-front of his own supporters, the 30-year-old has bagged three goals already this year and will be confident of reaching double figures for the second-year in succession.

Irreplaceable up-front, Jutkiewicz may end up taking Birmingham to new heights in the Championship providing that he can stay fit.

The Blues have to sort out their away day woes

Despite winning their first away game of the season against Brentford, the Blues' recent form away from home has been dire.

After being outclassed by Nottingham Forest, Birmingham proved to be no match for Swansea City who swept them aside at the Liberty Stadium.

Considering that his side conceded three goals in both of these games, it may be worth Clotet changing his game plan for the club's upcoming clash with Charlton to avoid suffering another drubbing.

Jude Bellingham must be given the chance to thrive

One of the most exciting talents to emerge from Birmingham's youth academy in recent history, Jude Bellingham seemingly has the world at his feet.

Still only 16-years-old, the forward created history against Stoke City last weekend by becoming the Blues' youngest ever goalscorer and will unquestionably be looking to build upon this performance.

With Bellingham already proving that he can compete at Championship level, Clotet should consider using him on a regular basis over the coming months.
