Neil Harris saw his new Cardiff side secure their first win under his management as they edged to a 1-0 victory over Stoke at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Leandro Bacuna scored the only goal of the game after just 11 minutes as the Bluebirds maintained their unbeaten record under Harris, with this win following up their second-half comeback against Charlton over the weekend to seal a 2-2 draw.

The Welsh side have now moved up to 10th in the Championship table as a result of the four points they have gained under Harris, but the former Millwall boss will still be seeking plenty of improvement from his side moving forward.

Here are three things he will have learned from the victory over the Potters...

Cardiff need to improve their level of intensity

Harris built a lively and hard-working side at Millwall during his four years at the helm in South London, and it will have already become clear he has plenty of work to do in order to re-create this at Cardiff.

The 42-year-old could often be seen encouraging his players to keep working hard, but it will likely take some time for Cardiff to reach the level Harris wants from them as he continues to evolve the team.

Having said this, the Bluebirds have still managed to make an encouraging start to Harris' tenure at the club, but they could really start hitting the next level if they can improve their work rate across the pitch.

Lee Tomlin's form could be critical to Cardiff's success

Tomlin was left out of the starting line-up for Harris' first Cardiff match against Charlton, but he came off the bench to score their equalising goal against the Addicks, and this then earned him a spot from the start against Stoke.

The attacking midfielder produced another impressive performance in Harris' first home match, as he proved his ability to transition the ball from midfield into attack, and Harris must now be fully aware of what he can bring to the side.

There are few players within the Cardiff side who can match Tomlin in terms of his creativity from midfield, and this should make him a regular pick in Harris' selections going forward.

Gary Madine could be a very useful player this season

Madine made just two league appearances this season prior to Warnock's departure, but he has already equalled this tally since Harris' arrival, with the new boss having started him in attack for both matches.

The former Bolton man delivered his best performance of the season so far against Stoke on Tuesday, as he not only provided the assist for Leandro Bacuna's goal, but he produced excellent hold-up play throughout the match.

Cardiff fans would have been forgiven if they had forgotten about Madine during his run out of the side, but the latest evidence suggests he could have an important role to play under Harris in the future.
