Tranmere Rovers face their third play-off final is as many years this weekend as they take on Newport County for a place in League One.

They faced Forest Green Rovers in 2017, losing out and remaining in the National League.

Twelve months later they returned to London, this time beating Boreham Wood and grabbing their Football League status back.

In their first season back they've excelled, threatening to break into the top three with a tremendous run after Christmas.

They ultimately failed to do so, but a two-legged play-off win against Forest Green saw them set up a Wembley date with Newport County.

They're now just 90 minutes away from successive promotions, a wonderful achievement considering the disappointment around the club following that 2017 defeat.

James Norwood has been an influential figure for them this season, but the final could be his last game for Mickey Mellon. That'll give the manager something to think about, as well as the task in hand.

Here are three things likely to be on the manager's mind this week.

Replacing Norwood

He might not have left yet, but replacing James Norwood will be on the manager's mind somewhere.

The striker has bagged almost half of his side's goals this season and when he does leave, it will mean a huge gap needs plugging.

Mellon will be aware of that even before his final game for the club.

Keeping Amond and Matt quiet

Norwood might have scored 30 goals, but the pairing of Amond and Matt bagged 28 between them.

Their threat comes from two angles and whilst keeping a single striker quiet is a one-man job, managing two prolific forwards is another problem entirely.

They'll need to make sure their defensive plan accounts for the power of Matt as well as the guile of Amond.
