Nottingham Forest and Martin O’Neill are preparing for a big window as they look to improve their squad to be able to fight for a play-off spot next season, and a goalkeeper seems to be high on O’Neill’s priority list.

The Nottingham Post reported this week that Forest are preparing a move for Manchester City’s Kosovan goalkeeper Aro Muric.

The 6’6” goalkeeper is the number one ‘keeper for Kosovo’s national team, and has starred for City at youth level.

He spent this season playing backup to Ederson, after a lengthy injury to Claudio Bravo, and he featured a number of times in cup competitions.

Most notably, he adopted Pep Guardiola’s playing out from the back style and was a hero of a penalty shoot-out in the Carabao Cup.

Here, we look at three qualities he would bring to the City Ground should a deal be sealed.

Playing out from the back

Aro Muric plays out from the back with an arrogance and swagger that few young goalkeepers do, which is why Pep Guardiola trusted him to be his second choice goalkeeper this season.

Although he played in many weakened sides, the philosophy didn't change, and Muric showed he can be a modern goalkeeper.

This could give O'Neill's men a different way of playing next season, and although playing out from the back will inevitably cost them a goal or two along the way, overall the benefits that it brings in terms of creating chances outweigh the negatives.

Youthful desire

Many young players that come to the Championship excel because they have the drive and correct attitude, Muric strikes us as the sort of player that can bring that.

He is not shy - in fact, he once received a lengthy ban for fighting in a youth game - and he will be a big figure in the dressing room, despite his age.

Aggression coming out for crosses

Speaking of his aggression, Muric is 6'6", which is huge, although Forest fans may not think so given the height of their current 'keeper Pantillimon, who is taller.

Muric is an astute shot stopper and will be commanding off his line, running at the feet of strikers and collecting crosses.
