Lee Bowyer has done a remarkable job at Charlton under the circumstances.

Off the field, the club is in disarray with owner Roland Duchatelet asking the EFL to take them over recently.

It's not conducive to a smooth promotion challenge, nor is selling your best striker and being refused permission to bring in a replacement.

This season, across the leagues, we've seen some great tales of success in the face of adversity. Birmingham, QPR and Sheffield Wednesday should have done much worse than they have, as should Blackpool.

The troubles off the field can help galvanise the squads on it and that is exactly what's happened at the Valley.

Lee Bowyer shouldn't have been a good manager, Charlton shouldn't have been promotion candidates. Bowyer has challenged the stereotypical view of him as a player and the Addicks are better for it.

He's now got three big challenges facing him this summer, as we explore.

Replacing Karlan Grant

He has to find a natural partner for Lyle Taylor if they're going to either challenge at the top again, or maybe even stay in the Championship.

Not replacing Grant hasn't cost them this season, but Vetokele and Ajose are not up to the standard required.

It's a big ask, but he has to find a solution.

The Joe Aribo situation

Aribo is an incredible talent, but he's sure to want a move away as his contract expires.

Can Bowyer sell the dream to the homegrown midfielder?

If he can, it'll be a huge coup.

Finding replacements for the loan players

Krystian Bielik and Josh Cullen have been big players for them this season.

Ben Purrington is a late addition, but he's brought balance to the back four too.

Losing them is a big blow and Bowyer needs a plan to get them covered for next season.
