Portsmouth got back to winning ways on Tuesday night as they overcame MK Dons 3-1 at Fratton Park to move back into the play-off places in League One.

Goals from Andy Cannon, John Marquis and Marcus Harness sealed the three points for Pompey as they successfully bounced back from last Saturday's defeat at Fleetwood and extended their unbeaten league record at home.

It proved to be a lively affair on the south coast, as both teams managed a combined total of 30 shots, with MK Dons also converting a penalty in the first half and receiving a late red card.

However, Kenny Jackett will be pleased with his side's showing, but there is another game around the corner to prepare for this coming Friday, as Pompey take on a relegation-threatened Rochdale side.

Here, we look back at three things that we learnt from last night's clash on the south coast...

Pompey benefited from MK errors

Portsmouth's first goal came from a cheap MK Dons error in their own box, after Jordan Houghton gave the ball away straight to Ryan Williams, who squared it for Andy Cannon to tap in from close range.

It was not the only significant error from the away side during the game either. Portsmouth could've had another gift of a goal, with Houghton once again at fault.

He was intercepted cheaply by Andy Cannon, who threaded a ball into John Marquis, but his effort was saved by Lee Nicholls.

According to WhoScored, Russell Martin's side were dispossessed a total of 19 times during the game, which speaks for itself.

Cannon back in business

Andy Cannon marked his return to the starting lineup after almost a month out with a goal and another accomplished performance in the attacking midfield role.

The goal was his first in a Pompey shirt, as he tapped in Ryan Williams' cut back in the box to give his side the lead.

The 23-year-old showed what Portsmouth have been missing in the middle of the park, and contributed with two key passes and one successful dribble during the course of the 77 minutes that he was on the pitch.

Man of the Match deserved for Bass

The 21-year-old stopper once again proved why Jackett continues to select him as Pompey's first-choice goalkeeper after another fine display.

Bass made a total of five saves during the game, including one from Alex Gilbey's penalty - only for the MK Dons man to score the rebound.

Out of those five saves, three of them involved parrying the ball away from danger.
