Having taken over the reins at Middlesbrough last month from Tony Pulis, Jonathan Woodgate will unquestionably be wanting to add some real quality to his squad before the new Championship campaign kicks-off in August.
Therefore, it is not at all surprising that the 39-year-old has been linked with a move for one of Liverpool's most exciting young prospects.
According to the Northern Echo, Boro are reportedly interested in signing Ryan Kent on a season-long loan from the Reds.
If this is indeed true and the Smoggies can get a deal over the line for the winger, it will be intriguing to see just how he fares in the Championship.
Keeping this in mind, here are three things that we think Kent could bring to Middlesbrough next season...
A willingness to take the game to the opposition
An intricate player who is blessed with an abundance of pace, Kent has demonstrated throughout his career a willingness to get his team's on the front foot by taking the game to the opposition.
If he can use these skills for Boro during the upcoming campaign, the winger could very well create some real moments of magic for their supporters to cherish.
Given that the Smoggies finished sixth in 2018 and seventh in 2019, it could be argued that if Kent hits the ground running at the Riverside Stadium, they will have every chance of challenging for automatic promotion in 2020.
The ability to score goals from midfield
When you consider that Boro's midfielders only managed to fire in 20 goals between them last season, it is clear that they need to improve their efficiency in the final third over the next 10 months.
Therefore, by securing the services of Kent, they may be taking a significant step to solving this particular issue if his escapades during his time at Rangers are anything to go by.
On loan at Ibrox for the entirety of the 2018/19 campaign, the 22-year-old found the back of net on six occasions in the Scottish Premiership with his stunning solo effort against Celtic in March being the pick of the bunch.
But for injury and suspension, it could be argued that Kent may have been able to fire in more goals and thus he will have every confidence in his ability to push on towards double figures for the Smoggies.
Some much-needed service for Britt Assombalonga
Whereas Britt Assombalonga didn't exactly struggle in-front of goal last season, a lack of sufficient service from the wide areas limited the impact that he was able to have for Boro.
With the likes of Stewart Downing, who has since left the club, and Marcus Tavernier struggling considerably for consistency throughout Pulis' time in charge of the Smoggies, the arrival of Kent could be a blessing in disguise for the 26-year-old.
By providing some real quality for Assombalonga next season, there is no reason why the forward cannot reach the 20 goal mark for the very first time in the Championship.
