Blackburn Rovers suffered their first home league defeat for over a year after falling to a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United on Wednesday evening.

Tony Mowbray's men, who hadn't lost at Ewood Park since last September, weren't really at the races on Wednesday night as they fell to their first defeat in their last five league games.

A late double from Billy Sharp secured a third successive win for Chris Wilder's side and their seventh victory of the campaign, as Rovers never really looked like getting out of first gear all night.

Nevertheless, it has been an impressive start to the season for Mowbray's men, who have lost just once in the league this season and sit 14th in the table after eleven league games.

Here, we take a look at three things we learnt from Blackburn's 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield United on Wednesday evening.

Rovers looked far too open against the Blades, and perhaps a change in system could be the answer to their problems.

Mowbray could look to play 3-5-2, with a backline of Lenihan, Mulgrew and Williams, Bennett and Bell as wing-backs, a midfield trio of Evans, Reed and Rothwell, with Bradley Dack just behind Danny Graham up top - this could be successful for Rovers.

Brereton came under heavy criticism by Blackburn fans last night, after making his fourth appearance for the club since his £7million arrival from Nottingham Forest in the summer.

The 19-year old has heavy expectations on his shoulders, and he needs time to prove himself and live up to his hefty price tag, as he just isn't cutting it right now.

Rothwell, once again, looked bright when coming off the bench and deserves a starting berth after a string of impressive performances.

Richie Smallwood has made a slow start this season, and needs to be replaced.
